smiley face reminder

so beck is having trouble in school remembering to bring his homework packets home, his textbooks, turning in permission slips and returning library books. i don't know if he doesn't remember or just chooses not to. i kind of think beck thinks that if he doesn't bring home his work that means he doesn't have to do it. grrrrrrrrr! it's totally frustrating! one thing i've found that does jog his little memory is drawing smiley face "tattoos" on his wrist.  works every time. well, at least for now.

the little blazer that saved the day

this morning was rough. beck was rude, acting super crazy and out of control. i was hanging by my last nerve. all i wanted to do was crawl in a hole and hide. i dropped him off at school and was worried how his day might go. i was feeling down about our morning all day. after school i decided to take beck to WRIGLEYVILLE DOGS for a snack. we sat outside and tried to enjoy the sunshine. i was freezing and beck could tell. he stood up, took off his blazer and walked around the table. then beck wrapped his tiny blazer around me. i almost burst into tears.  these are the moments i live for. my heart melted.

meat lovin boy

me: "hey little buddy! i'm going to the grocery store tomorrow.  is there anything specific you want me to get for you?"

beck: "beef jerky and meat. real meat."

i'm not a meat eater, but the beckster lives to eat meat. sometimes i wonder if god is punishing me for something by giving me the #1 meat lovin boy. i've learned to accept beck's love for "real meat" and allow it in moderation.

beck started first grade today. the little guy was soooo nervous. he's such a sweetie.

i'm proud of beck because he's a brave little guy and i was the one with tears in my eyes. i felt bad that he only knew one person in his entire class. it's awesome that one person is his best friend. they'll be getting in lots of trouble together in no time at all.

today we were playing WAKE ME UP BEFORE YOU GO GO in the car. what was beck's reaction to that song? "this song is so happy! if you were grumpy and heard this song it would make you really happy."

today was the last day of beck's summer break. since tomorrow is a school night we packed our day full of adventure and photos.
